1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

This 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is a Y84 Special Edition finished in Starlight Black with gold pinstripes and a gold Firebird hood graphic. One of 1,107 built with the 400ci W72 V8, it was delivered new to Hansford Pontiac in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and acquired by the selling dealer in 2023. The car is powered by a rebuilt 400ci W72 V8 linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a Safe-T-Track limited-slip differential with 3.23:1 gears.
The exterior features removable roof panels, a shaker hood, front and rear spoilers, sport side mirrors, chrome side-exit exhaust, and Year One 17" snowflake-style wheels fitted with Riken Raptor tires. The WS6 Special Performance Package adds four-wheel disc brakes, a quick-ratio steering box, and a larger rear sway bar.
Inside, the cabin is trimmed in black cloth with hobnail inserts and includes power windows, a center console, AM/FM/8-track stereo, Hurst shifter, R134 air conditioning, and a Pioneer CD stereo in the glovebox. The Formula steering wheel is mounted on a tilt column, and instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer, 6k-rpm tachometer, inset clock, and auxiliary gauges.
The 400ci W72 V8 was rebuilt in 2011 with forged pistons, a 204/214 camshaft, and a high-flow aluminum water pump, and a GM street-pro clutch kit was installed at the same time. A dynamometer test from 2010 recorded 270 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque. The five-digit odometer shows 2k miles, which is said to have rolled over once.
